Hurricane Season- and now, Hurricane Irma

This is an extraordinary and potentially tragic Hurricane Season. Following Hurricane Harvey, at this moment, Hurricane Irma is heading towards southern Florida as a Category 4 storm that might grow back into a Category 5 storm as it crosses the 90 degree waters of the Straight of Florida. It has already devastated the Carribean Islands of St. Martin, St. Barts, the British Virgin Islands and the Turks and Caicos and lashed the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic. Haiti, Cuba, and the Bahamas. It is bigger in width than the state of Florida. and its center is expected to hit the west coast of Florida before heading north up Florida into Georgia and points beyond.

Behind it is Hurricane José in the Atlantic, and Hurricane Katia in the Gulf of Mexico.

Once the Hurricane passes, relief can begin as it has in the Caribbean Islands. At this point, the story in Florida is about evacuation.

This is an open discussion for sharing stories about people and places that you care about who are in the eye of the storm. You can also comment about preparations, evacuations, rescue and shelter operations, good decisions, bad decisions, recovery operations, and the rebuilding to follow.

Links will be posted as they are available including links to relief agencies and organizations if you would like to help.
